Sandgate District State High School has developed Junior and Senior programs to extend, motivate and develop athletes in their chosen field.
Junior Academy of Sport program
Students study Academy Programs as an elective in the Junior Curriculum. Some topics covered include:
Body Image and Self Esteem
Invasion Sports & Performance
Sport - AFL, Rugby League,
Tennis, Netball, Cricket, Soccer and Biathlon.
Sport Science and Performance
Modifiers
Health Issues: Nutrition in Sport
Applied Exercise Science
Sociology of sport
Strength and Conditioning
Senior Academy of sport program
The program is structured to allow athletes to work closely with Sports Physiotherapists, Nutritionists and Psychologists to assist players to reach their sporting and academic endeavours.
Training techniques incorporate the latest sport science practices in video analysis and biochemical feedback. Students accepted into the program will be required to study five (5) subjects in addition to the Academy Program. This enables an Overall Position (OP) to be gained if desired.
The students will be completing the SIS20310 Certificate II in Sport and Recreation as a part of the Academy of Sport studies.
