Compass program

Our aim

At Sandgate, we believe that all students can be successful.  The Compass Program aims to provide personalised pathways for students through school to post school tertiary education, training and employment.  Pathways could include university study while sill at school, School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships, vocational qualifications from external providers e.g. TAFE, structured workplace learning, work experience and work shadowing.

Would it suit my student?

The Compass Program is designed to assist all students to find their own direction through school.  Students are placed in a class which caters to their ability level and learning style.  Students are assisted in setting individual goals and targets so that from Year 7 onwards they can begin to plan a bright future for themselves.  Literacy and numeracy are the cornerstones of academic success and are a major focus for all students.  Academic progress is supported through our pastoral care program.

Sandgate has negotiated a number of partnerships with agencies and industries external to the school.  These partnerships open pathways through school so that students can explore their own direction into post school options e.g. Yamaha Grand Prix enables students to participate in  a work inspiration program involving three parts:” Knowing Yourself”; “Behind the Scenes” where students speak to key people employed at by Yamaha across a range of jobs (technical, marketing, sales, racing team); “Career” where students have a 1/1 conversation with an employee of the organisation.  The program culminates in the Student Grand Prix involving students from schools competing using the knowledge, skills and abilities developed throughout the program.
