Year 7, 8 and 9

The aim of the Junior English program is for students to experience appropriate challenges, enjoyment and success in their English studies. This Year students the English faculty has implemented the mandated requirements of the Australian curriculum.

Besides an immersion in the English basic tools such as: punctuation, spelling and grammar, students engage with a balanced variety of literary and non-literary texts. Prose, poetry, drama and multimedia texts provide the basis for the study and production of many genres, ranging from short stories to creating digital trailers.

To complement the existing units of work in the Middle School, the English faculty developed a Reading programme in 2010 designed to assist students to engage with and respond to a wide range of text types. It is expected that by engaging with these texts, students will have access to knowledge that enables effective communication on all levels. Students read silently for 15 minutes at the start of each lesson.

Year 10

The Year Ten English programme further develops the reading, writing, viewing, organizing, listening and speaking skills established in Year 8 and 9. The Australian Curriculum has also been implemented for Year Ten English this year.

The programme also provides students with a seamless transition to Senior English with opportunities to determine which level of English they will undertake at Senior level. Students choosing Authority English for Senior must obtain a minimum of a B standard at Year 10.

Year 11 & 12 Authority English

Senior English develops students’ knowledge of how language works in social and cultural contexts, as well as how language works in texts.

Students of Senior English develop their capacities, as literate members of Australian and global communities, to participate actively in the worlds of work, study and leisure. The work undertaken by students in Senior Authority English is both challenging and rewarding.​

Year 11 & 12 English Communication

This study area specification subject has been developed as a two-year Authority-registered subject to take into account the needs of students from a variety of cultural, social, linguistic and economic backgrounds.​
