What is the Master Music program?
Master Music is an extension program of classroom music with a focus on performance. This program is for students in years 7 to 10 who demonstrate exceptional music talent, instrumental and/or vocal. The Master Music program offers students a classroom music course at a more advanced level than the regular course that is available to all students. Students who can already read music and who already play an instrument (or sing) are given opportunities to accelerate their learning and skill development. The Master Music program is designed for students to express themselves, to be creative and play and explore with music and sound.
Students in the Master Music class study a curriculum framed around the Australian Curriculum, they will study music in greater breadth and depth than their peers. They will develop performance, composition and analytical skills through working closely with staff and industry professionals. The Master Music Program offers a course of study that leads directly to Senior Music and Music Extension subjects. The activities and units of work undertaken in the Master Music course link closely with the Instrumental Music Program and students are expected to bring their instruments to class on a regular basis. There will be opportunities for Year 7 and 8 students to experience Dance, Drama and Visual Art.
Music is an integral part of everyday life serving self-expression, celebratory, social, cultural and educational roles. A study of music not only assists students in their own understanding and enjoyment of the arts, it helps them achieve excellent academic results in other subject areas through the promotion of healthy study and practice habits and creative thinking.
