Instrumental Music
Sandgate District State High School has a long and proud tradition in music education. Since the early 1960's there have been many active music performance groups and our young musicians continue to be excellent ambassadors for our school and local community.
Tuition is available on the following instruments:
♫ Woodwind
Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Saxophone (Alto, Tenor and Baritone), Oboe and Bassoon.
♫ Brass
Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium and Tuba.
♫ Strings
Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.
♫ Percussion
Students receive tuition on all percussion instruments including drum kit, snare and bass drum, tuned percussion (xylophone etc and timpani) and traps.
The major ensembles at SDSHS are:
♫ Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE),
♫ Concert Band
♫ Senior Stage Band;
♫ Junior Stage Band
♫ String Ensemble;
♫ Percussion Ensemble;
♫ The School Choir.
Music
Music holds a significant and special place in the everyday life of all cultures and societies. Studying Music can enhance enjoyment of music and the arts, develop your practical and creative potential, and allow students to contribute to a community's cultural life.
Students at Sandgate District SHS study a wide range of music styles throughout their study in a highly interactive and practical music program. Students perform, compose and study music to develop their skills and develop as musicians.
At Sandgate District SHS, students can elect to participate in the Master Music program. This is an excellence program designed for students with demonstrated musical aptitude for students in Year 7 and 8. Our music program is complemented by our Instrumental Music program which provides tailored musical instrument tuition and ensembles for students to participate in.
In Year 12, students can elect to study Music Extension, majoring in either Performance, Composition or Musicology. Music Extension provides an opportunity for students with specific abilities in music to extend their expertise.
