What is VET?
Vocational
Education and Training is for Year 10 -12 students who want to develop
work-related knowledge and skills. VET can be completed in two different ways:
Stand-alone
VET qualifications delivered by schools, TAFE or private providers;
School-based
traineeships and apprenticeships (SATs) allow students to work for an
employer and train towards a recognised qualification while completing
their school studies. This will typically involve one day per school week off
campus for students. If the SAT is not completed by the end of Year 12,
students may convert to a full-time or part-time traineeship or a
full-time apprenticeship.
Successfully completed VET courses will
earn credit points that contribute towards a student’s Queensland Certificate of
Education (QCE).
Courses on offer
at Sandgate DSHS
Sandgate District SHS is an RTO (RTO#30432) that
offers a range of courses for students to complete at school. We also deliver courses in partnership with
TAFE and private providers at the school.
Students complete these subjects during standard class time as a
subject. Additional hours may need to be
completed as part of work placement for a course.
Courses on offer for the year can be found in the
current Subject Selection Handbook.
Costs of stand-alone
VET courses provided by the school
There are costs associated with some VET qualifications. School-based VET courses offered by the school may have costs associated with activities such
as excursions and units delivered externally.
Cost of stand-alone
VET courses provided by external providers
VET is a source of funding that is provided by the
government to allow students to complete one Certificate I or II level course
in a variety of areas free of charge.
TAFE and private providers will clearly indicate if a course is VETis
funded.
Students may also wish to pay for VET courses
privately. The school will support
participation of these courses as long as it does not exceed one-day absence
per week.
VET Complaints
and Appeals Policy
Students can make complaints and appeals for all VET
courses. This policy is available for school offerings within the School’s Intranet.
